The Courses to Careers (C2C) Program at PA CareerLink® Luzerne/Schuylkill Counties has offered participants the opportunity to attend mindfulness sessions through the online wellness platform studio BE! This program supports young professionals after graduating with a degree or license to find long-lasting employment in their field. You can read more about the program’s partnership with studio BE here.
Through studio BE training sessions, C2C participants learn strategies they can use to combat stress as they transition from the classroom to the workplace. Joe Longo, an instructor at studio BE, recently guided participants through meditation practices and empowered these young professionals to challenge their mindset towards the transition into the workforce.
For example, if you are a recent graduate, you may feel as though finding a job after graduation is an impossible task. Maybe you’ve been told you don’t have enough experience to take on a full-time position in your field. Maybe you struggle with finding a company that matches your professional interests. If you spend your time listening to people who discourage you in your job search, you might miss out on opportunities and limit your potential. Joe refers to this effect as a “fixed mindset.” He challenged participants to counteract those negative thought patterns with a “growth mindset.” You can do this by adjusting your thoughts to focus on opportunities for growth, rather than barriers you need to overcome. You know that you have worked hard to complete your education, and you also know that you have the talents to excel within your field of study. Therefore, you should feel confident in yourself when you apply for open positions after graduation.
A growth mindset is all about remaining calm, compassionate, and courageous when approaching your job search. Below are some examples of thoughts you can use to transition into a growth mindset when searching for a job:
“I have the clarity to learn about opportunities around me.”
“I know that my education has prepared me to be a valuable asset to employers.”
“I have the courage to succeed in the workplace.”
Shifting your thoughts from a fixed to a growth mindset will help prepare you for your interviews and thrive in the workplace.
If you need assistance finding local job opportunities after graduation, the C2C Program can connect you with employers to complete a 12-week paid work experience. During your time in the C2C program, you are able to refine your skills, build self-confidence, and connect with mentors in your field. You will also have access to the studio BE portal to learn more about building steadiness and resilience in the workplace.
